February In Music - The Last Ten Years

This is just a pick of musical events that have happened in February over the last 10 years.

2005 - 
On February the 13th 2005, Ray Charles becomes the big winner of the 47th Grammy Awards which were held in Los Angeles at the Staples Centre. Charles won five awards which was the record for most posthumous Grammy Awards won in one night. 


















2006 - 
On February the 18th 2006, The Rolling Stones gave a free concert to 1.5 million people in Rio De Janeiro on Copacabana beach.  It was the Rolling Stones' first concert in Rio since 1998. It has been deemed the biggest free rock concert ever. 

















2007 - 
On February the 26th 2007, 'Gramophone Magazine' report on their website a confession by 'William Barrington Coupe' stating he released recordings done by other pianists under the name of his wife.

















2008 -
On February the 8th, Thriller 25 is released as a celebration of Michael Jackson's Thriller album's 25th anniversary. Michael Jackson himself was the executive producer of the album. 


















2009 -
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss won five Grammys with their album 'Raising Sand'. The album also won Album Of The Year. 






















2010 -
On February the 18th 2010, 'We Are The World 25 For Haiti', the charity single, debuted at number 2 on 'Billboard Hot 100' and got number 1 on Billboard Hot Digital Songs Chart after having 267,000 digital downloads.
















2011 - 
On February the 18th 2011, Radiohead released their eighth studio album 'The King Of Limbs'. The album was self released as a download initially and was available in CD or vinyl formal on the 28th March. No singles were released from the album although a music video was released for 'Lotus Flower'. 

The album was named one of the best albums of 2011 by numerous publications; a few of which were NME, The Wire and PopMatters. 














2012 -
On February the 29th 2012, The Monkees band member Davy Jones dies after suffering a heart attack at the age of 66. 

The Monkees have sold more than 75 million records worldwide and have had international hits. In 1967, the Monkees were at their peak outselling The Beatles and The Rolling Stones combined. 

















2013 -
On February the 4th 2013, Fall Out Boy announced a reformation of the band and released a new album 'Save Rock And Roll' and also announced a concert tour. 

In the first week of the album being out it sold 154,000 copies in the United States alone. 












    2014 -
    On February the 19th 2014, the Brit Awards took place at the 02 arena in London. 

    David Bowie reclaimed 'The Best Male Solo Artist' which we won in 1984. Arctic Monkeys won two awards taking both 'Best British Group' and 'British Album Of The Year' which they won with their album 'AM'.
